Today is union day. I would like congratulate the people of the United Republic of Tanzania as we celebrate the forty-seventh anniversary of the union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar on April 26. This is an opportunity to celebrate the culture and accomplishments of our peaceful, tolerant and democratic country. I commend Tanzania for its work to promote regional stability, broad-based and inclusive prosperity, and democratic governance. May the coming year bring continued peace and prosperity to Tanzania.
