According to the Mwananchi report, several people have been reported dead and many other injured following series of explosions from what is believed to be an arms depot in Gombo la Mboto army camp. Properties worth millions of shillings, including the army facilities and residential houses have been destroyed by the powerful explosions which started at around 8pm yesterday.  Investigations have been launched to establish the cause of the explosions and the extent of damage. The Tanzania People Defence Forces (TPDF) headquarters is expected to give a statement any time. Hundreds of residents of Gongo la Mboto and the surrounding areas have been evacuated and have been ordered to stay away from the area until further notice.
Authorities have temporarily closed the Julius Nyerere International Airport over safety concerns following powerful explosions at a nearby arms depot. No aircraft has landed or took off since 9pm Wednesday.

Latest news have reported that hundreds of residents of Gongo la Mboto, Ukonga, Airport, Kipawa, Pugu and surrounding areas who abandoned their houses following powerful explosions from an arms depot, have started to return to their homes. Many people were seen in bus stops, asking for more information about the safety of the area before they boarded buses heading to Gongo la Mboto.
